Cases in Sustainability

28 03 07 - 09:09 How do we make entrepreneurial support organisations more sustainable and what challenges are we facing when we move entrepreneurship across borders? These were some of the questions discussed in track three of the day 2 program.

The first session of track 3 was a breakout session about “Creating Sustainable Local Enterprise Networks”. The moderator Dr. Dmitri Repin, Professor at the State University in Moscow, invited the participants to share their experiences from their own Local Enterprise Networks. With every Local Enterprise Networks (for instance a Business Plan Competition) there is a challenge of sustainability. How do you get new students to come work for your organization? How do you find new participants for your BPC, and how do you maintain contact with former participants? The group consisted of people from different continents, and there was a lively discussion and many good ideas were shared. The group discussed challenges common to all BPCs, such as judges, organizing teams, sponsors and participants.

The second session was about “Entrepreneurship across Borders”. This session’s moderator was Mr. Steve Moore from the UK, and the panel consisted of Mr. Brent Kreuger (Canada) Mr. Andreas Flensborg (Denmark) and Mr. Svein Kjetil Haugset (Norway). The first thing the moderator Steve Moore did was to make the whole group move into a circle to promote conversation among the participants. The panellists each presented their topic for a conversation, and the participants were then encouraged to suggest topics themselves. Afterwards the participants were free to choose which conversation they wanted to join. Some of the topics discussed in this session were how to get students in touch with local entrepreneurs in development countries and how to make students include the millennium goals into their BPC contributions.

The last session in this track was about “The Role of Intellectual Property in the Entrepreneurial Ecosystem”. The moderator Magnus Hakvåg, and the panellists Dr. Timothy Norris, Mr. Brent Kreuger and Ms. Turid Buvik engaged the participants in a discussion about IPR.
